About Agrosol

Like a traditional solar array, the Agrosol system captures sunlight for energy. But, unlike traditional solar, it allows solar fields to be used as agriculture fields at the same time, realizing not only the value of solar panels, but also what grows underneath them.

How It Works

The Agrosol model features a low-cost flexible and dynamic array of collection units. Light and flexible panel assemblies and their supports are installed and positioned above the crops while the electrical and mechanical infrastructure is installed underground at a distance safe from farm equipment and weather. When it’s time for the farmer to sow or harvest, each unit is easily removed from its base, which then retracts well below the soil horizon. After the crops are planted the arrays are simply re-installed.

The arrays unique and flexible design not only collect sunlight, but also protect and nurture the plants below. While the top of the panels protect crops from environmental threats like hail and wind, the humid, shaded microclimate beneath the panels provide essential agricultural benefits to the farmer, including: reduced crop water requirements, increased survivability during droughts, an extended growing season, and less soil erosion.

Versatility & Flexibility

Agrosol panels are designed to adapt to the fields of any kind of crop. For hearty traditional crops like corn, wheat, and soy, its flexible design offers access for easy irrigation and field maintenance. For high value vegetable crops like lettuce and spinach, the panels allow for easy access when harvesting by hand and may allow for an additional crop harvest. And for rotational crops, the long periods of rest or low yields maximize its capability to collect sunlight, generating energy and revenue.
